How to Build a Roll Top Desk

Roll top desk are perfect for the patio or the garden as the wood is protected from mold, termites and other insects that would snack on a table made from plain wood. Building a table of treated wood is a project a nebula can fill for a few hours. If you know how to use a screwdriver, you can build a table to enjoy for many seasons.

Instructions

Create a material list for the size roll top desk used you plan to build. To build a 4-of-6 foot table, you need eight treated 4-by-6 wood planks that are 6 meters long. This will give you a thick table top, robust enough to stand up for children, pets and temporary guests, accommodating six adults. Place 6 foot long boards down and side by side. They should be as close to each other as possible without touching water to drain into the table as needed. Make sure the ends are lined evenly on both sides. Drill holes for the screws in your 2-by-4 wooden braces. Place a screw every 2½ inches. Place a stick 8 inches from each end and the other two braces evenly distributed between them. Attach braces with tire screws.

Go two of 28- to 30-inch long wooded wood planks together at right angles with two metal right-angled braces – one near the top and one near the bottom. This is one of your table legs; Repeat this process until you have four table legs. Attach the table legs to the table with the four remaining right-angled metal braces, one leg in each corner of the table. You can also choose to put your legs 6 to 8 inches in the corners, to give the table a lip. Apply wood seals throughout the treated wood board. Treated wood can be protected from insects and molds, but water can still cause your table to age before its time. Apply waterproofing at least once a year to help your table maintain its natural beauty. Use gloves when handling treated wood.

Tips and warnings

Paint the computer roll top desk and seal it with polyurethane. For an outdoor table, use pressed pine posts for the legs, and attach them to the table top with L brackets. Seal the entire table top with oil-based polyurethane to keep the moisture out of plywood. Attached cups flashing around the table’s edge with copper pins instead of applying wooden veneer for a rustic look. If you do not like screw-in table legs that are available, use any other type of flush mount legs. Not sand table top with rough sandpaper; it will cut through veneers. Always wear safety goggles when using power tools.
